Around 200 people live on the island of Jura. This 20 year old bottling is named for them, and for the crew who make the whisky. The distillery released it in November 2017. Jura

Jura is a distillery located on the Isle of Jura, off the west coast of Scotland. It was founded in 1810, but ceased production in the 1900s. In 1963, it was rebuilt and reopened, and has been producing whisky ever since. The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Jura 10 Year Old, Jura 16 Year Old, and Jura 21 Year Old. These whiskies are aged in a variety of casks, including ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, giving them a range of flavors and aromas. Jura uses locally sourced barley and water from the nearby Loch a'Bhaile-Mhargaidh in its whisky production. The distillery has its own malting floor and still house, allowing for complete control over the production process.

Jura 20 years One and All is an Island single malt Scotch whisky from the west coast of Scotland. It comes from the Jura distillery, the only one on its island. The whisky spent twenty years in wood before bottling at 51% alcohol. There is no chill filtration and no added colouring. That leaves the texture oily and the spirit at full strength. It was released in November 2017. The distillery first opened in 1810, then fell silent for decades. Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith rebuilt it in 1963. Their aim was practical: give islanders somewhere to work. Around 200 people live on Jura, and every job counts. That history sits behind the name of this bottling. One and All salutes the community that keeps the distillery running. That 1963 rebuild also gave the distillery its modern shape. The nose leads with honey and toffee, plus a sweet earthy note. Almond and cinnamon sit underneath, with a whiff of cereal. Vanilla and caramel take over on the palate. There is spice there too, and an oily, vegetative weight that keeps things serious. The finish goes somewhere else entirely. Sea salt, licorice and a medicinal edge arrive, followed by black pepper and baked apples. Wine casks set this release apart from the rest of the range. The spirit matured in ex-bourbon and sherry wood first. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir barriques finished the job. Those casks explain the dried fruit and the darker sweetness. Jura 20 years One and All also arrives at 51% without chill filtration. Twenty years of age and three wine cask types make an unusual pairing.
