Facts

Jura makes its whisky on a wild, near-empty island where deer outnumber people many times over. Once a year the distillery opens its doors for a festival celebrating the island and its single malt. Tastival is the bottling made to mark that gathering. It only appears in limited numbers, so each release becomes a small event in itself. Expect a warm, fruity character built from sherry sweetness and orchard fruit. There is honey, a little spice and a salty island edge. Pour it neat and let the festival spirit unfold.

Jura

Jura is a distillery located on the Isle of Jura, off the west coast of Scotland. It was founded in 1810, but ceased production in the 1900s. In 1963, it was rebuilt and reopened, and has been producing whisky ever since. The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Jura 10 Year Old, Jura 16 Year Old, and Jura 21 Year Old. These whiskies are aged in a variety of casks, including ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, giving them a range of flavors and aromas. Jura uses locally sourced barley and water from the nearby Loch a'Bhaile-Mhargaidh in its whisky production. The distillery has its own malting floor and still house, allowing for complete control over the production process.

About the Jura Tastival

Jura Tastival is a single malt Scotch whisky from the remote Isle of Jura. It is bottled by the Jura distillery in Scotland as a limited festival release. Each year the island hosts its own whisky festival, part of the wider Hebridean celebrations. Jura Tastival is the special bottling created to mark that event. Made in small numbers, it became a collector favourite among fans who travelled to the island. The distillery sits in a tiny village on a long, wild island off the west coast of Scotland. Jura is famous for having far more red deer than people. That isolation shapes the whisky and the community around it. Festival visitors arrive by ferry, tour the stills and queue for the new release. It is one of the most personal festival drams in Scotch whisky. In the glass this single malt leans rich and fruity. Sherry casks lend dried fruit, raisins and sultanas, and a deep sweet core. Fresh fruit and ripe grape sit alongside warm honey and soft vanilla. There is a malty backbone underneath it all. A little pepper and gentle spice keep things lively. The whole thing feels generous rather than heavy. The island setting leaves its mark too. You catch a thread of sea salt and a faint medicinal note near the end. These coastal touches balance the sweeter, fruity heart of the spirit. The finish is long, warming and softly spiced. It is a whisky that rewards slow sipping. Enjoy this Jura release neat, in a decent glass, with time to spare. It suits anyone who loves a sherried, fruity single malt with character. Bottlings like Tastival show why island whisky has such a loyal following.
