Facts

A seer cast out from Jura in the early 1700s left a curse on the Campbell clan. She said the last Campbell would depart one-eyed, his goods on a cart pulled by a white horse. In 1938, Charles Campbell made exactly that journey. Jura Prophecy was created to honour that island legend. Most Jura releases stay lightly peated. This bottling turns the dial hard toward smoke and brine. Tarry bonfires, cinnamon spice, and dried fruit push through the peat. The finish keeps smoky warmth without going harsh. Pour it neat and let the layers unfold slowly.

About the distillery

Distillery

Jura

Jura is a distillery located on the Isle of Jura, off the west coast of Scotland. It was founded in 1810, but ceased production in the 1900s. In 1963, it was rebuilt and reopened, and has been producing whisky ever since. The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Jura 10 Year Old, Jura 16 Year Old, and Jura 21 Year Old. These whiskies are aged in a variety of casks, including ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, giving them a range of flavors and aromas. Jura uses locally sourced barley and water from the nearby Loch a'Bhaile-Mhargaidh in its whisky production. The distillery has its own malting floor and still house, allowing for complete control over the production process.

About the Jura Prophecy

Jura Prophecy is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Island region of Scotland. Jura Distillery built this expression to tell a darker side of island life. The name recalls a soothsayer expelled from Jura in the early eighteenth century. She foretold that the last Campbell on the island would leave one-eyed. His belongings would ride on a cart pulled by a solitary white horse. Islanders still speak of that curse when they pour a dram. In 1938, Charles Campbell fulfilled that prophecy after losing an eye in the Great War. Most whisky from the Isle of Jura stays lightly peated by tradition. Jura Prophecy breaks that pattern. It is heavily peated at around forty parts per million. Selected aged stocks matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks before bottling. The result feels richer and smokier than the distillery's usual house style. Only a limited release, it quickly became a cult favourite among peat fans. Tarry bonfires and iodine rise from the glass first. Brine and black pepper cut through the peat on the palate. Floral heather and hints of honey soften the edges. Cinnamon and earthy smoke bring warmth to the mid-palate. Dried fruit and caramel lurk beneath the smoke. A grassy note and fresh apple linger into the finish. Bottled at forty-six percent ABV without chill filtration, the spirit keeps its natural weight. Fresh fruit and buttery notes deepen as the glass rests. A hint of chocolate and cardamom adds complexity as the peat fades. This Island single malt suits peat lovers who want Jura character with real fire. Pour it neat and give the glass time to open.
