Facts

Dalmore sits on the Cromarty Firth and has long pursued a rich house style. Port Wood Reserve shows that style in a more vivid direction. The whisky starts with rounded sweetness, then turns deeper and darker with each sip. You catch dried fruit, orange peel, and a soft thread of dark chocolate. A little leather and pepper keep the sweetness honest. It feels generous, yet still precise, with a texture that lingers. This is the kind of dram that invites a second pour, not because it shouts, but because it keeps unfolding.

About the distillery

Distillery

Dalmore

Highlands of Scotland. It was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, who saw the potential of the area's natural resources for creating high-quality whisky. The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the popular 12-year-old and 18-year-old expressions, as well as a number of limited edition releases. Dalmore is known for its rich, full-bodied whiskies with notes of citrus, chocolate, and spices. Dalmore also has a long-standing association with the Mackenzie clan, who once owned the distillery. The iconic stag's head emblem that appears on the bottles of Dalmore whisky is said to have been inspired by a legend in which the clan chief saved King Alexander III of Scotland from a charging stag, and was granted the right to use the animal's antlers as his crest as a result.

About the Dalmore Port Wood Reserve

Dalmore Port Wood Reserve is a Highland single malt whisky from Scotland, made at Dalmore Distillery. Dalmore builds this release around its rich house style and careful wood management. The spirit first rests in American white oak ex-Bourbon barrels for sweetness and structure. It is then finessed in aged Tawny Port pipes for deeper fruit character. This finishing step reflects Dalmore's long relationship with Graham's Port Lodge in Portugal. That partnership is a distinctive thread in Dalmore Port Wood Reserve. The port influence adds dried fruit tones, softer tannins, and a darker mid-palate. You also find orange peel, vanilla, and dark chocolate moving through the glass. On the nose, the whisky shows red berries, plum notes, and warm sweetness. The palate brings oak, caramel, coffee, and a touch of cinnamon spice. Dalmore keeps the texture broad, so the flavours arrive in clear layers. Drink it neat to follow each layer from sweetness to spice. Dalmore Port Wood Reserve works well for drinkers who want fruit depth without heavy peat smoke. It suits anyone exploring cask-finished Highland whisky with clear structure. Dalmore Distillery fans often choose it when they want a richer evening dram. It also makes a reliable gift for whisky lovers who enjoy port cask influence. Dalmore Port Wood Reserve offers character, clarity, and a finish that stays focused. Compared with simpler oak-led malts, this bottle shows more layered sweetness and darker fruit. The balance between bourbon cask foundation and port finish feels deliberate. That combination gives the whisky its memorable identity. Dalmore Port Wood Reserve also appeals to drinkers moving from sweeter malts toward structured, oak-framed styles. Dalmore uses this expression to show how finishing can add complexity without losing balance.
