Nick Offerman made no secret of his love for Lagavulin. In 2019 the distillery made it official and put his name on a bottle. This is the 11 year old that came out of that partnership. It is younger than Lagavulin's usual releases and a little louder for it. Peat smoke arrives first, then vanilla and oak, then a run of dark chocolate and butterscotch. The finish dries out and turns woody. Islay salt sits behind everything. Pour it neat and the sweetness holds its own against the smoke.

Lagavulin 11 years Offerman Edition is a single malt Scotch whisky from Islay, bottled at 46%. It carries the name of actor Nick Offerman, a long-time fan of the distillery. The spirit spends eleven years in cask before release. That is younger than the classic 16 year old, and the difference shows. Smoke still leads, but the fruity and sweet notes sit closer to the surface. The distillery sits on a sheltered bay on the south coast of Islay. Peter Mackie took the reins in 1887 and pushed the malt onto the world stage. Peat and sea air have shaped the house style ever since. The Offerman project started in 2019, when Offerman's public affection for the brand turned into a bottling. He has stayed involved with each release since, from cask to label. The nose leans on oak and warm vanilla, with bare wood underneath the smoke. Take a sip and it turns sweet fast. Dark chocolate arrives first, then butterscotch, then a savoury, malty weight in the middle. The finish pulls back toward oak and dry wood. Peat runs through all of it, but it never flattens the other flavours. A maritime salt note sits at the edges throughout. Most of the Lagavulin range leans hard on age and pure peat. Lagavulin 11 years Offerman Edition goes the other way. Cask finishing gives it a sweeter, brighter frame than the standard bottlings carry. The age statement is lower, so the spirit reads livelier and less settled. The releases have changed cask finish from one edition to the next.
