Facts

Benriach has been distilling in North Speyside since 1898. Few distilleries give a whisky this much time and variety before bottling. Four cask types shape the spirit during its long maturation. These are bourbon barrels, sherry casks, virgin oak, and Bordeaux red wine. Both peated and unpeated spirit go into the blend, so the smoke arrives quietly rather than loudly. What you get is malty warmth layered with fresh fruit and a hint of pear. Oak spice adds depth without taking over. It won Double Gold at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and it earns it.

Benriach

The Benriach distillery is located in the Speyside region of Scotland and was established in 1898. It is known for producing single malt whiskies that are characterized by their fruity and floral notes, often with a hint of peat smoke. The distillery sources its water from the Burnside Springs and uses traditional methods of production, including floor malting. In 2004, the distillery was closed but was reopened in 2008 after being purchased by a consortium led by Billy Walker. Today, Benriach produces a range of whiskies, including aged expressions and limited edition bottlings. The distillery is also known for experimenting with different cask finishes and maturation techniques, resulting in unique and interesting flavour profiles.

About the Benriach 21 years The Twenty One

Benriach 21 years The Twenty One is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from Benriach distillery in Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1898 and sits in the heart of Scotland's most prolific whisky region. This 21-year-old expression is built around an unusually broad range of cask types. Bourbon barrels, sherry casks, virgin oak, and Bordeaux red wine casks each contribute to the final blend. Benriach is one of the few Speyside distilleries to produce both peated and unpeated spirit. The Twenty One brings both styles together, with the smoke playing a supporting role. Master Blender Rachel Barrie describes it as reflecting the landscape around the distillery. The layers bring together mountain oak spice, creamy malt, and hints of fruit. On the palate, malty richness is the foundation. Fresh fruit notes of pear and pineapple build above it, brightened by floral and scented edges. A gentle smokiness ties everything together, leading into a finish of candied grape and honey smoke. Benriach 21 years The Twenty One won Double Gold at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. That recognition reflects a whisky that rewards careful attention. It is bottled at 46% ABV, giving it presence in the glass without being overwhelming. This is a reliable choice for anyone seeking a complex, aged Speyside single malt. It also makes an ideal gift for serious whisky lovers. The long cask maturation gives The Twenty One a rounded, layered quality. It is a pleasure to drink neat. The four cask types each leave a distinct trace. Bourbon adds warmth, sherry brings dark fruit, and virgin oak contributes spice. The Bordeaux wine casks lend a faint cherry note, adding one final layer to a complex and rewarding dram.
