Facts

Springbank still malts every grain of its barley on its own floors. Few distilleries in the world still do. That hands-on craft shows in the glass. The spirit is distilled two and a half times. This unusual method sits between two and three runs. The result feels weighty and a little oily, full of brine and toffee. Bottled straight from the cask, it carries real depth and a salty Campbeltown edge. There is honey here, and a warm vanilla sweetness underneath. Pour it neat and let the layers unfold slowly. It rewards patience and a quiet evening.

Springbank

Springbank is a historic distillery located in Campbeltown, Scotland. Founded in 1828, it is one of the few distilleries in Scotland that still carries out every step of the whisky-making process on site, including malting, milling, mashing, fermentation, distillation, maturation, and bottling. The distillery produces three different types of whisky: Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn. Springbank is medium-peated and triple-distilled, Longrow is heavily-peated and double-distilled, and Hazelburn is unpeated and triple-distilled. Springbank is known for using traditional methods and producing a distinctive, complex whisky with a maritime character.

About the Springbank 12 years Cask Strength

Springbank 12 years Cask Strength is a single malt Scotch whisky made in Campbeltown, on Scotland's wild western coast. The Springbank distillery has worked this town since 1828. It survives as one of the last producers in a region that once held more than thirty whisky houses. That history sits in every bottle. This is unhurried, traditional whisky from a place that refused to disappear. What sets this distillery apart is its self-reliance. Springbank carries out every step on site, from malting the barley to filling the bottle. The floor maltings supply all of the barley the spirit needs. Very few distilleries can still say that. The spirit is distilled two and a half times, a quirk almost unique to this house. Some low wines get an extra pass, giving the whisky its rich, layered weight. In the glass, Springbank 12 years Cask Strength shows its character at full power. There is salt and sea brine, a nod to the coastal warehouses. Sweet caramel, toffee and soft vanilla follow close behind. Honey threads through the middle, warm and unforced. A gentle spice lifts the finish without ever turning sharp. The cask strength format keeps everything intact and vivid. Nothing has been stripped out to make the whisky easier. You meet the spirit exactly as the cask shaped it. This twelve year old single malt is not chill-filtered and carries no added colour. The texture stays thick and the flavours stay bold. It is honest whisky from a family-owned distillery. Drink it neat and give it room in the glass. The high strength means it opens slowly, releasing brine, toffee and oak in turn. This is a whisky for slow sipping and close attention. It suits anyone curious about old Campbeltown character. The Springbank distillery, owned by J&A Mitchell, still does things the long way. That patience is exactly what you taste here.
