Highland Park stands at the northern edge of Scotland, on Orkney. The peat there carries more heather than almost anywhere else in the islands. That heather character is not an accident. The distillery still malts a portion of its barley by hand on traditional floor maltings. It uses that local peat to dry the malt. Thirty years in sherry casks then layers on dried fruit, honey, and leathery depth. Brine and sweet vanilla meet fig and spice in the glass. This is a whisky that wears its age without effort.

The distillery was founded in 1798 and is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland, with over 200 years of whisky-making experience. The distillery is located on a hill overlooking Kirkwall, and draws its water from the nearby Cattie Maggie spring. Highland Park produces a range of whiskies, including both unpeated and peated expressions, which are aged in a combination of oak casks, including ex-bourbon, sherry, and hogshead casks.

Highland Park 30 years Vintage is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Island region of Scotland. It is distilled at Highland Park distillery in Kirkwall, Orkney. Kirkwall sits on the Orkney archipelago, making this one of the northernmost Scotch whisky distilleries in the world. The distillery was founded in 1798 by Magnus Eunson and received its official licence in 1826. The name Highland Park refers to a local geographical feature, not the Scottish Highlands. Highland Park is one of very few Scottish distilleries to still use traditional floor maltings. Barley is turned by hand and dried over locally cut peat. Orcadian peat contains more heather than most mainland Scottish peat. This softens the smoke and adds a fragrant note to the spirit. That heather-rich character gives this whisky its distinctive peaty, slightly medicinal quality. The distillery ages its spirit in sherry casks sourced from Spanish Oloroso producers, using both American and European oak. This 30-year-old expression was bottled as part of The Spectator's 180th Anniversary series. Three decades in those sherry casks build a layered complexity. Sweet honey and vanilla come first, with oak spice rising behind them. Fig and orange peel add fruity richness. Almond and brine run through the background, and a leather note deepens as the dram opens up. Highland Park 30 years Vintage is bottled at 45.7% ABV with no added colouring.
