Facts

Magnus Eunson founded Highland Park in the late 18th century on Orkney. An island swept by Atlantic winds and shaped by Norse heritage. Dark Origins is his tribute. This expression uses twice as many first-fill sherry casks as the distillery's flagship 12-year-old. Tilting the spirit toward its darkest, richest character. The result is deep and compelling. Dried fruit and dark chocolate sit alongside a thread of smoke. Baking spice lifts the finish. Pour it neat and give it a few minutes in the glass. It rewards patience.

About the Highland Park Dark Origins

Highland Park Dark Origins is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Island of Orkney. Made at the Highland Park distillery on Scotland's far northern edge. This expression draws its name and its character from Magnus Eunson, the distillery's legendary founder. His story is bound up with the rugged Norse heritage of these islands. What sets Highland Park Dark Origins apart is its cask strategy. The distillery fills it using twice as many first-fill sherry casks as the standard 12-year-old expression. Around 80% of the maturation happens in sherry wood, with a significant share of that in European oak. The result is a whisky that leans into depth and intensity rather than lightness. On the nose, dark chocolate and dried fruit lead the way. Caramel and fig follow closely, with warm baking spice. A wisp of peat smoke adds the signature depth of the Highland Park house style. The palate is rich and dry. Cherries and berries emerge alongside cocoa and black pepper. The finish is long and warming, with smoke curling through to the very end. Highland Park has operated on Orkney since the late 18th century. The distillery malts a portion of its own barley over peat cut from local heather moors. Giving the spirit a distinctive aromatic smoke that differs from mainland peat. That signature thread runs through Highland Park Dark Origins and balances its sherry-driven weight. Drink it neat. The 46.8% ABV gives it enough presence to fill the glass without water.
