Facts

Talisker stands alone on the Isle of Skye. It is the only distillery on the island and one of Scotland's most distinctive coastal malts. This expression takes the smoky, peppery character Talisker is known for and finishes it in amoroso sherry casks. The sherry adds warmth, dark fruit, and depth without dulling the sea-salt edge. The result is something richer and darker. Dried fruit and caramel soften the brine without taming the pepper. The finish is long, warming, and unmistakably from Skye.

Talisker

Talisker is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery located on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It was founded in 1830 and is the oldest distillery on the island. The distillery is situated on the shores of Loch Harport, with views of the Cuillin mountain range. Talisker produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Talisker 10 Year Old, Talisker Skye, Talisker Storm, and Talisker Port Ruighe. The whiskies are known for their distinctive smoky flavour, which comes from the peat used to smoke the barley during the malting process. The distillery uses traditional methods of whisky production, including floor malting, wooden washbacks, and copper pot stills. The water used in the production process comes from the nearby Cnoc nan Speireag (Hawk Hill) spring.

About the Talisker Distillers Edition

Talisker Distillers Edition is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Skye, Scotland, finished in amoroso sherry casks. Talisker distillery was founded in 1830 by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill in Carbost on Skye's Minginish Peninsula. The sherry cask finish sets this expression apart from the standard Talisker range. It layers dark fruit richness over the distillery's signature coastal character. Expect dried apricot, blackcurrant, and cherry alongside the brine and earthy smoke Talisker is known for. A buttery caramel note runs through the mid-palate, softened further by cream and dark chocolate. Talisker uses worm-tub condensers rather than modern shell-and-tube condensers. This older cooling method keeps more weight and oiliness in the spirit. The distillery features looped lye pipes that allow vapour to condense and return to the stills. These allow partial re-distillation before the spirit moves on. These production choices give Talisker its full, direct texture. The malt is lightly peated to around 18–22 ppm, adding a subtle ash and smoke quality. Talisker Distillers Edition is bottled at 45.8% ABV. That strength gives the whisky enough body to carry the sherry influence while keeping the pepper and brine in place. It drinks well neat and rewards patience in the glass. The finish lingers with black pepper, dried fruit, and a warm coastal saltiness. Talisker Distillers Edition won Best Islands Single Malt at the 2013 World Whiskies Awards. For anyone who enjoys Island single malts, Talisker Distillers Edition is a rewarding step up from the core range. It makes an ideal gift for whisky lovers drawn to smoky Scotch with added sherry depth.
