Facts

Talisker built its name on salt, smoke and Skye sea air. This release does something it had never tried before. The spirit spent its final months in ex-pot still Caribbean rum casks, a first for the distillery. That rum influence brings sweetness to the wild coastal core. You get brown sugar, banana and ripe mango, then a wave of black pepper and earthy smoke. Bottled young at full cask strength, it lands with real force. Caramel and chocolate soften the edges without dulling the bite. Pour it neat and let the heat settle. Then let it breathe to soften the bite.

About the distillery

Talisker

Talisker is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery located on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It was founded in 1830 and is the oldest distillery on the island. The distillery is situated on the shores of Loch Harport, with views of the Cuillin mountain range. Talisker produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the Talisker 10 Year Old, Talisker Skye, Talisker Storm, and Talisker Port Ruighe. The whiskies are known for their distinctive smoky flavour, which comes from the peat used to smoke the barley during the malting process. The distillery uses traditional methods of whisky production, including floor malting, wooden washbacks, and copper pot stills. The water used in the production process comes from the nearby Cnoc nan Speireag (Hawk Hill) spring.

About the Talisker 8 years

Talisker 8 years is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Skye, the rugged Island region of Scotland. It was made at the famous Talisker distillery, then finished in ex-pot still Caribbean rum casks. This was the first time any Talisker had been finished in rum wood. That detail makes this cask-strength bottling stand out among the brand's coastal classics. The rum casks add a warm, tropical sweetness. Expect banana, mango and apricot up front. Brown sugar and caramel follow, with a thread of honey and citrus. Underneath sits the salty, peppery smoke that Talisker is known for. The palate runs bold and oily. Black pepper arrives fast, joined by earthy peat and a curl of chocolate. There are flashes of green apple and fresh fruit too. The finish is long, smoky and faintly herbal. At this strength, every flavour hits hard. The distillery sits on the shore of Loch Harport, the spiritual home of Talisker since 1830. For nearly two centuries it was the only distillery on Skye. Sea air seeps into the warehouses and shapes the spirit inside. That maritime character is why this single malt feels so direct and alive. Bottled at natural cask strength, Talisker 8 years rewards a careful pour. Drink it neat to feel the full power. Add a few drops of water and the rum sweetness blooms. The rum twist makes it a striking change from the standard Talisker. It suits anyone who loves smoky whisky with a tropical twist.
