There is no age statement here. The strength sits at 57.1% ABV, and the whisky goes into the bottle without chill filtering or added colour. Every drop is Islay malt, nothing else. Port Askaig sits on Islay's east coast, where the ferry from the mainland ties up. Visitors step off there first, so the name carries the island's front door. Sukhinder Singh launched the range in 2009 and added this bottling in 2015. The figure 100 is not marketing. On the old British proof scale, 100 degrees equals 57.1% alcohol, and that is where the whisky lands. Smoke arrives first on the nose, dry and unmistakably peaty. The palate turns sweet almost at once, with sugar and vanilla under the earthy peat. Salt and spice follow, plus a leathery, medicinal streak that Islay drinkers know well. Grain and a vegetative note sit in the background. The finish holds the salt and smoke, then leaves a dark chocolate bitterness behind. Nothing about it is shy.
