Facts

High in the Scottish hills sits the coldest distillery in the country, where the air stays sharp almost year round. That slow, cold maturation gives this single malt its gentle, unhurried character. The standard 15 year old is then finished in Oloroso sherry casks, deepening everything you already love. Expect soft honey and vanilla first, then warm caramel and a curl of cinnamon spice. Dried fruit and a faint sherry sweetness settle in behind, with a malty, oily weight that lingers. It stays floral and fresh rather than heavy. Pour it neat and let the cold-country calm come through in every sip.

About the distillery

Dalwhinnie

Dalwhinnie is a Scotch whisky distillery which classifies its whisky as a Highland Whisky while its located in the Speyside region. This is due to the fact that the Speyside region falls entirely within the Highland region of Scotland. As a result, distilleries in Speyside have the option to label their whisky as either Highland or Speyside, according to legal regulations. Dalwhinnie is situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, at an altitude of 1,164 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest distilleries in Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1898 and has been producing single malt whisky ever since. Their core range includes the Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old, which is known for its light, floral and honeyed flavors, as well as the Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold, which is a non-age-statement expression that is designed to be enjoyed as a winter dram.

About the Dalwhinnie 15 years Distillers Edition

Dalwhinnie 15 years Distillers Edition is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Highland village of Dalwhinnie, in Scotland. It carries the unmistakable calm of one of the coldest inhabited places in Britain. The village averages just 6.6 degrees Celsius across the year. That long, cold climate shapes how the spirit matures. Dalwhinnie is the highest distillery in Scotland, standing 326 metres above sea level. The mountain air and slow maturation give the whisky its soft, rounded feel. For this Distillers Edition, the classic 15 year old single malt gets an extra finishing period in Oloroso sherry casks. That second cask adds richer sweetness and a darker fruit note on top of the familiar house style. The result is a gentle, layered Highland single malt. Honey and vanilla lead on the nose, warm and inviting. The palate brings caramel, a touch of cinnamon spice, and ripe dried fruit. There is a malty, slightly oily body underneath, plus a floral, fresh-fruit lift. A whisper of tobacco and apple rounds out the long, mellow finish. The sherry casks lend a deeper, fruitier edge to the classic style. The balance stays gentle from first sip to last. This bottling rewards slow, neat drinking. Pour it into a glass and give it a few minutes to open. The sherry influence in Dalwhinnie 15 years Distillers Edition makes it feel a little more festive than the standard release. It suits quiet evenings and easy conversation. If you enjoy approachable Highland whisky with sweet, spiced depth, this expression of Dalwhinnie is an easy one to love.
