Facts

Dalwhinnie sits at 326 metres, the highest distillery in Scotland. Up here the air is cold and clean, and the spirit takes its time. This bottling starts as the gentle Highland malt people love, then gets a second spell in Oloroso sherry casks. That finish deepens the honey and adds rich, dried-fruit warmth. You get soft caramel and vanilla on the nose, a flicker of lime, then a faint coastal brine. There is a whisper of peat in the background, never heavy. The oak rounds it all off. Pour it neat and let the sweetness slowly unfold.

About the distillery

Dalwhinnie

Dalwhinnie is a Scotch whisky distillery which classifies its whisky as a Highland Whisky while its located in the Speyside region. This is due to the fact that the Speyside region falls entirely within the Highland region of Scotland. As a result, distilleries in Speyside have the option to label their whisky as either Highland or Speyside, according to legal regulations. Dalwhinnie is situated in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, at an altitude of 1,164 feet above sea level, making it one of the highest distilleries in Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1898 and has been producing single malt whisky ever since. Their core range includes the Dalwhinnie 15 Year Old, which is known for its light, floral and honeyed flavors, as well as the Dalwhinnie Winter's Gold, which is a non-age-statement expression that is designed to be enjoyed as a winter dram.

About the Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition

Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Highland village of Dalwhinnie in Scotland. The Dalwhinnie distillery stands at 326 metres, the highest in the country. That cold, high setting shapes a soft and honeyed Highland spirit. This expression takes the classic house style and gives it more depth. After its first maturation, the whisky rests again in Oloroso sherry casks. The double maturation adds rich grape sweetness and a warm layer of dried fruit. It builds on the gentle character without burying it. On the nose you find honey and caramel, with creamy vanilla close behind. A touch of fresh fruit and lime keeps it bright. The taste leans sweet and malty, with a light coastal brine for balance. A faint peaty thread runs underneath, soft rather than smoky. The finish is long and honeyed. Oak and gentle wood spice round out the sherry richness. It stays elegant and easy to follow, never sharp. This is a fine introduction to sherry-influenced Highland malt. Bottled at 43%, Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition is best enjoyed neat. Give it a few minutes in the glass first. The aromas open and the sweetness grows. The honey and caramel make it warm and easy to like. The gentle brine and soft peat add quiet depth. The lime keeps the sweetness fresh and balanced. It works as a comforting after-dinner pour. Dalwhinnie Distillers Edition is a fine first step into sherry-finished Highland malt. It suits both newcomers and seasoned drinkers who want something approachable.
