Facts

Tobermory sits alone on the Isle of Mull, the only distillery producing two distinct spirits under one roof. By day they make the unpeated Tobermory, by night the heavily peated Ledaig. This 12-year expression captures the gentler side of the operation. American oak barrels shape twelve years of maturation, drawing out apple and pear notes with buttery caramel undertones. The Island location adds its own character. Sea air drifts through the warehouses during those dozen years. You taste it in the glass: fresh fruit balanced with oak and a whisper of salt. Natural colour, unchill-filtered, bottled at 46.3%. Pour it neat and let the Mull terroir speak.

About the distillery

Distillery

Tobermory

Tobermory is a Scotch whisky distillery located on the Isle of Mull in Scotland. It was founded in 1798. The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including their signature Tobermory expression, which is a lightly peated whisky with notes of fruit and spice. Tobermory also produces a heavily peated single malt under the name Ledaig, which has a smokier flavour profile than Tobermory. Both Tobermory and Ledaig whiskies are aged in a variety of casks, including ex-bourbon and sherry casks. Tobermory was mothballed for a period of time in the 1980s and 1990s, before being reopened in 1993. During this period of closure, the distillery was used as a brewery and a candle factory. The reopening of the distillery was a major event for the Isle of Mull, as it brought jobs and tourism to the area.

About the Tobermory 12 years

Tobermory 12 years is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Island region of Scotland. Produced at the only distillery on the Isle of Mull. Released in 2019 to celebrate the distillery's return after a two-year closure. This expression represents the unpeated side of Tobermory's unique dual production. The distillery operates with fascinating versatility, switching between producing unpeated Tobermory whisky and heavily peated Ledaig expressions. This dual character makes Tobermory distinctive among Scottish distilleries. The facility has weathered periods of closure and revival throughout its history. Each production run requires different equipment settings and careful attention to detail. The whisky matures exclusively in American oak casks for twelve years. Developing a complex interplay of orchard fruits and woody spices. Apple and pear dominate the nose, supported by buttery caramel and hints of cinnamon pastries. The palate reveals rounded malt character with oily texture, delivering stone fruit sweetness alongside oak influence. Tobermory's Island heritage shows through subtle maritime notes that emerge from years of maturation in sea air. The Atlantic winds carry salt across the island during those twelve years. The finish combines orange peel brightness with soft sawdust and dates. Natural colour and unchill-filtered presentation preserves the whisky's full character at 46.3% ABV. This expression suits those seeking approachable Island whisky without peat influence. Serve neat to appreciate the careful balance of fresh fruit, caramel sweetness, and gentle spice that defines Tobermory 12 years. The whisky's rounded character makes it ideal for exploring Scotland's diverse Island region.
