Facts

Tobermory Distillery has stood on the Isle of Mull's harbour since 1798, the only distillery on the island. Its warehouses sit right by the water, and sea air works its way into every cask. On the palate, brine and citrus arrive first, then apple, apricot and grape sweetness underneath. Honey and ginger add warmth, while a touch of iodine and earthy leather hints at the coast outside. The distillery also makes a heavily peated malt called Ledaig, but this bottling keeps things unpeated and bright. Best enjoyed neat, in a quiet moment. The fresh fruit and floral notes unfold slowly, rewarding patience with every sip.

Tobermory

Tobermory is a Scotch whisky distillery located on the Isle of Mull in Scotland. It was founded in 1798. The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including their signature Tobermory expression, which is a lightly peated whisky with notes of fruit and spice. Tobermory also produces a heavily peated single malt under the name Ledaig, which has a smokier flavour profile than Tobermory. Both Tobermory and Ledaig whiskies are aged in a variety of casks, including ex-bourbon and sherry casks. Tobermory was mothballed for a period of time in the 1980s and 1990s, before being reopened in 1993. During this period of closure, the distillery was used as a brewery and a candle factory. The reopening of the distillery was a major event for the Isle of Mull, as it brought jobs and tourism to the area.

About the Tobermory 10 years

Tobermory 10 years is a single malt Scotch whisky from Tobermory Distillery on the Isle of Mull, Scotland. It represents the Island region at its most maritime, brine-touched and vivid. The town of Tobermory is famous for its colourful harbourfront, and the distillery sits right on the water. Expect citrus, iodine and a gentle medicinal edge that speaks to the sea just outside the warehouse doors. This 10 year old single malt captures that character in every glass. Tobermory Distillery was founded in 1798, making it one of Scotland's oldest working distilleries. It originally traded under the name Ledaig, a heavily peated whisky it still produces today. Tobermory itself, the unpeated single malt, was built for fruit, floral notes and gentle spice rather than smoke. That split character, one soft and one smoky, is part of what makes the distillery worth knowing. Ledaig keeps the peat smoke, while Tobermory keeps things bright and clean. On the palate, Tobermory 10 years leads with fresh fruit. Apple, apricot and grape sit alongside brighter citrus and grassy sweetness. Honey and malty cereal notes give it body, while ginger and a whisper of almond add warmth. Herbal and floral tones drift through the middle, keeping the whisky lively rather than heavy. A touch of alcohol heat lifts the aromas without ever turning sharp. Grape and apricot sweetness linger, keeping the dram fresh from start to finish. A thread of iodine and earthy leather runs underneath, a quiet nod to the salt air outside. It never turns smoky or medicinal in the way Ledaig does. Instead it stays fresh and fruit-driven, easy to place as an Island single malt with real character. At 40% ABV, Tobermory 10 years drinks best neat, with time to let the aromas open. It suits anyone curious about Island whisky beyond the famous peated names. As Tobermory Distillery's core expression, it remains an approachable way into what Mull's only distillery does best.
