Lot 40 is a single-grain Canadian rye whisky from Canada. Distilled at the historic Hiram Walker Distillery in Windsor, Ontario. This facility has operated continuously since 1858, making it one of North America's oldest and largest distilleries. Master Blender Dr. Don Livermore oversees production using a traditional 12,000-liter copper pot still. The mash bill contains 100% rye grain: 90% unmalted Canadian rye and 10% malted rye. Lot 40 sources 97% of its grains from local farms in Essex and Kent counties. This commitment to regional sourcing connects each bottle to southwestern Ontario's agricultural heritage. The whisky traces its lineage to rye first distilled by Joshua Booth near Millhaven following the American Revolutionary War. Mike Booth, Joshua's descendant, revived this historical recipe in the 1990s. The result showcases pure rye character without compromise. Black pepper and rye spice dominate the palate, supported by brown sugar, caramel, and oak. Honey, cinnamon and ginger add warmth alongside herbal mint and eucalyptus notes. Lot 40 represents traditional Canadian whisky-making at its finest. The copper pot still distillation preserves the grain's natural oils and intensity. No colouring is added, so the spirit shows its natural hue. The 43% bottling strength keeps the rye spice forward without excessive heat. Enjoy this expression neat to appreciate its spicy, full-bodied character. Each sip reveals why rye whisky remains Canada's signature spirit. Lot 40 has earned a loyal following among drinkers who want bold rye flavour without American bourbon sweetness. The whisky pairs naturally with contemplative sipping rather than rushed pours.
