Jefferson's Reserve Bourbon is a small batch straight bourbon from the United States, bottled at 45.1% ABV. The spirit comes together in Kentucky, where mature barrels are selected and married by taste. This is bourbon built by a blender's hand. Corn leads the recipe, with rye and malted barley behind it. Age is not printed on the label. What matters instead is the taste of the barrels that made the cut. The scale is the point. Many bourbons called small batch are assembled from 200 to 300 barrels. Jefferson's Reserve Bourbon uses eight to twelve. That is closer to cooking dinner for eight guests than for eighty. Fewer barrels means each one carries real weight in the final flavour. Older casks give the blend its depth, while younger ones keep the fruit alive. Kentucky limestone water brings it down to 90.2 proof. It starts sweet on the nose, with vanilla right at the front. There is a soft woody note behind it, the kind that comes from years in charred oak. On the tongue the vanilla holds, joined by more sweet caramel weight. Then the rye shows up and brings spice, dry and peppery. The close is warm and long. Wood and sweetness fade together, with the spice trailing last. Jefferson's puts out several bottlings, and this one sits at the settled centre. The Reserve leans on older stock and a fuller strength. Nothing exotic props it up, only the choice of barrels. That makes it a clear read on what the blending team is chasing. Consistency comes from tasting, not from a fixed formula. Each release should land in the same place, batch after batch.
