Robert Burns (Arran)
Robert Burns (Arran) is a single malt and blend named after Scotland's national poet. It is produced at the Arran distillery in Lochranza, on the Isle of Arran. Harold Currie, a former Chivas director and D-Day veteran, founded the distillery and began making spirit in 1995. The link to the poet is more than marketing. Arran has partnered with the World Robert Burns Federation since 1998. It is the only whisky maker allowed to use the poet's image and signature on its packaging. The single malt tends to be light and fruity, a house style shaped by Arran's coastal island air. Construction of the distillery was even delayed when golden eagles nested on a nearby cliff. The protected birds had to be left in peace before work could continue.
