Facts

Batch 003 spent its seven years inside Fettercairn's Warehouse 2, and the whisky is named after it. The casks were a deliberate mix: ex-bourbon barrels, rum barrels, and French red wine barriques. Each one pulls the spirit in a different direction. You get honey and mango first, then cocoa and a dark red berry sweetness underneath. Bottled without chill filtration, the texture stays thick and slightly oily. Only 9,600 bottles came out of that warehouse floor. It is young, loud, and far more interesting than seven years usually sounds. Pour it neat and it holds its shape.

About the Fettercairn 7 years Warehouse 2

Fettercairn 7 years Warehouse 2 is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Highland region of Scotland. It carries the name of the warehouse where it matured. Batch 003 filled its casks in 2015 and was bottled seven years later. The strength is high and no chill filtration takes the edge off. Nothing here is smoothed over to make an easy first sip. Young Highland malt rarely arrives this confident. Warehouse 2 is a real building at Fettercairn, not a marketing label. For this release the distillery drew on three very different wood types. Ex-bourbon barrels make up 57 percent of the batch. Rum barrels supply another 16 percent. French red wine barriques fill the remaining 27 percent. That three-way split is unusual at seven years old. Only 9,600 bottles were released, so the batch has a hard limit. The nose opens with warm honey and ripe mango, both easy to pick out. Cocoa sits behind them, darker and drier. The palate turns spicy, with red berry sweetness from the wine casks. Rum barrels push a soft brown sugar note through the middle. Vanilla and light oak arrive late, more support than statement. The finish is long and slightly oily, with the honey returning at the end. Fettercairn 7 years Warehouse 2 is a batch release rather than a permanent bottling. Batch 003 will not taste the same as the batches around it. That is deliberate, and the label tells you which one you have. High strength keeps the young spirit's edges where they are. Wine and rum casks do work that bourbon wood alone cannot. It shows what Fettercairn spirit tastes like before long maturation smooths it.
