Westland 3 years Garryana is an American single malt from the United States, made in Seattle, Washington. The distillery bottles it at 50% ABV, without colouring or chill filtration. The name comes from Quercus garryana, the Oregon oak used to mature the spirit. Three years in that wood is enough to change everything. This is a young whisky that tastes far older than its age statement suggests. Quercus garryana grows only in the Pacific Northwest, and almost nobody makes barrels from it. The wood bends and cracks, so furniture makers left it alone. Westland found a barrel maker in Salem, Oregon sitting on aged Garryana lumber that nobody wanted. Master distiller Matt Hofmann called it one of the most charismatic species he has worked with. The distillery then built a whole supply chain around a tree its neighbours ignored.
