The Irishman Founder's Reserve is a blended Irish whisky from Ireland. It is built around a distinctive marriage of single malt and single pot still spirit. The Irishman brand was created by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh, whose family business first blended and bottled Irish coffee. They later turned their attention to whisky itself. That personal history still shapes the name on the label today. Founder's Reserve leans mostly on single malt, with pot still whisky adding weight and spice. Every batch is triple distilled for extra smoothness. The whisky is produced at Royal Oak Distillery in County Carlow, built on the banks of the River Barrow. When it opened, Royal Oak brought distilling back to Carlow after more than two centuries away. The Irishman was one of the brands that helped drive interest in Irish whisky's wider revival. That was long before many other Irish distilleries reopened their doors. This grounding in a working family distillery gives Founder's Reserve real character. On tasting, expect fresh fruit up front, think apple, pear and mango. Orange and a touch of lime add brightness on top. Underneath sits caramel, burnt sugar and vanilla, classic marks of ex-bourbon casks. A grassy, floral thread runs through the middle. Dried spice and cracked pepper build steadily toward the finish. Malty, oaky depth ties every layer together without ever feeling heavy. Founder's Reserve sits at 40% ABV, an easy strength for everyday drinking. Serve it neat and let the fruit and spice unfold at their own pace. It suits a slow evening more than a quick pour. The Irishman Founder's Reserve rewards patience the same way its makers once did. Flavour builds gradually here rather than rushing to a finish. Few blended Irish whiskies balance sweetness and spice quite this well.
