Tamdhu Batch Strength is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, bottled at cask strength of 56.8%. It comes from Tamdhu distillery at Knockando in Moray, Scotland. Every cask behind it is first-fill sherry oak. No bourbon wood enters the recipe at any stage. Each batch is small and carries its own number. The result is a dark, concentrated dram with real weight. Strength here is not a gimmick. It is the whole point. The distillery was founded in 1896 and filled its first casks in 1897. The site lies at Knockando, in Moray. For most of its working life it malted its own barley in mechanical Saladin boxes. That was rare then and almost extinct now. Production stopped in 2010, and Ian Macleod Distillers bought the site in 2011. Spirit flowed again in May 2013. The old Saladin boxes still sit there, quiet but intact. Fig and dark cherry come first, wrapped in orange peel. Milk chocolate and a touch of honey sit under that. Brown sugar and fruit cake fill the middle of the palate. Cola, dried fruit and a scrape of leather follow. Caramel builds as the glass sits. Sweetness runs deep here without ever turning sticky. Cherry, oak spice and fudge carry the long close. The sherry casks do most of that work. Most of the Tamdhu range goes out at a gentler strength. Tamdhu Batch Strength keeps everything the cask gave it, batch by numbered batch. The strength shifts slightly between releases, so no two are identical. Nothing is held back to hit a house style.
