Facts

Speyburn splits maturation between bourbon and sherry oak, then blends both influences into one bottling. In the glass, dark chocolate leads before cherry and orange push through with bright lemon and vanilla. Caramel warmth sits on a malty, woody base that feels round rather than sharp. The casks leave a spiced forest-fruit depth beneath the sweeter top notes. That double-cask marriage is what gives this release its character. Pour it neat and let each layer unfold slowly. It rewards a quiet evening and a patient first sip.

About the Speyburn 15 years

Speyburn 15 years is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from Scotland. Speyburn makes it at a hillside distillery above the Granty Burn in Speyside. The malt matures for fifteen years before blending bourbon and sherry cask influences into one rounded bottle. Official tasting notes highlight cherries, chocolate, and warm spice throughout. Most distilleries spread across flat ground. Speyburn went upward instead. Founder John Hopkins hired architect Charles C Doig to design the site. The build carved three working levels into a steep valley near the River Spey. Granty Burn water still feeds the site today. Spirit moves by gravity through the pagoda-topped building. Doig designed the layout to follow the hillside contours rather than flatten them. That unusual approach has defined the distillery since it opened in 1897. Dark chocolate and cherry lead the first sip, joined by orange, lemon, and bright citrus zest. Vanilla and caramel follow with malty depth and gentle woody spice underneath. Fresh fruit notes lift the palate and stop the sweetness from turning heavy. Toffee richness returns mid-palate with strawberry hints and a subtle meaty cereal echo. The close stays long and warming, with cinnamon, oak, and lingering chocolate. Speyburn 15 years arrives without chill filtration or added colour. That approach keeps natural oils in the spirit for a fuller mouthfeel. Bourbon casks contribute vanilla and sweet oak. Sherry casks bring forest fruits and gentle spice into the blend. Pour this whisky neat and let each cask note reveal itself slowly. At forty-six percent alcohol, it carries flavour without feeling raw. The texture stays creamy through the long finish. It suits drinkers who want rich Speyside character with fruit, chocolate depth, and a spiced woody finish.
