Facts

Tailfire takes its name from a glow of red berry fruit, and it earns it. The Singleton of Dufftown leans hard on European oak casks, the kind that once held sherry. That choice gives the malt its deep, fruity warmth. Think strawberry and peach on the nose, then toffee and raisins on the tongue. A whisper of cinnamon spice rounds off the finish. Launched in 2014, it was built to be approachable without feeling thin. This is Speyside in a generous mood. Pour it neat and let the dried fruit slowly unfold in the glass.

About the distillery

Singleton of Dufftown

In the heart of Speyside, Scotland, the town of Dufftown gave its name to a distillery built in 1895. Production began the following year, and the place has been quietly making whisky ever since. Today it belongs to drinks giant Diageo. The whisky sold as the Singleton of Dufftown is a single malt with a soft, fruity and honeyed character. Its water comes from Jock's Well, an artesian spring up in the Conval Hills, prized for its purity. That clean water is a big part of why the spirit tastes so approachable. That well also has a colourful past. The spring was so valued that rival distillery managers would sneak out at night and divert its water to feed their own production. The Singleton of Dufftown still draws from that same source today, and the brand has been the European face of Diageo's Singleton range since 2006.

About the Singleton of Dufftown Tailfire

Singleton of Dufftown Tailfire is a single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, in the heart of Scotland. It comes from the Singleton of Dufftown distillery, a name built for easy, fruity drinking. The style is rich and warm rather than smoky or sharp. The secret here is wood. Singleton of Dufftown Tailfire is matured in a high proportion of European oak casks, the sort that once held sherry. That choice pushes the fruit forward. Expect raisins & sultanas, dried fruit and a slice of fruit cake on the nose. The Singleton of Dufftown sits in Dufftown, a small town packed with working distilleries. Tailfire was launched in 2014 as a no-age-statement release. It was designed to win over newcomers without losing depth. The name nods to its glow of red berry fruit. On the palate this Speyside single malt turns sweet and round. Toffee and barley sugar lead the way. Then come notes of sherry, ripe peach and a touch of cinnamon spice. The fresh fruit keeps everything bright and lively. Bottled at 40% ABV, Singleton of Dufftown Tailfire is best enjoyed neat. It suits both new drinkers and seasoned fans of fruity Speyside malts. Let it sit in the glass for a minute. The dried fruit and gentle spice slowly open up. The strawberry and toffee notes make it a friendly evening pour. It also sits well alongside a slice of fruit cake. This Speyside single malt rewards an unhurried, relaxed glass. Few easy-drinking malts carry this much warm, fruity character.
