Singleton of Dufftown
In the heart of Speyside, Scotland, the town of Dufftown gave its name to a distillery built in 1895. Production began the following year, and the place has been quietly making whisky ever since. Today it belongs to drinks giant Diageo. The whisky sold as the Singleton of Dufftown is a single malt with a soft, fruity and honeyed character. Its water comes from Jock's Well, an artesian spring up in the Conval Hills, prized for its purity. That clean water is a big part of why the spirit tastes so approachable. That well also has a colourful past. The spring was so valued that rival distillery managers would sneak out at night and divert its water to feed their own production. The Singleton of Dufftown still draws from that same source today, and the brand has been the European face of Diageo's Singleton range since 2006.
