Distillery
Rampur Distillery is one of India’s oldest distilleries, established in 1943 in the foothills of the Himalayas in Uttar Pradesh. Operated by Radico Khaitan, it produces premium Indian whiskies using traditional methods combined with local climate influence. The region’s unique climate, with big temperature changes from day to night, helps the whisky mature faster and adds a distinct character to its flavour. Rampur is best known for its single malts, such as Rampur Select, Rampur Double Cask, and the limited-edition Jugalbandi series. The distillery uses Indian barley and copper pot stills, and ages its whiskies in a variety of casks, including bourbon, sherry, and wine barrels. Its expressions often feature tropical fruit, spice, and oak, reflecting both Indian heritage and modern whisky craft.

Rampur Jugalbandi #2 Calvados Cask Finish is part of Rampur's limited-edition Jugalbandi series—each expression blending two cask styles. The word “Jugalbandi” refers to a classical Indian musical duet, reflecting how two barrels come together in harmony. This whisky is first matured in American bourbon barrels in the high-heat, high-humidity Indian climate, which accelerates maturation and intensifies flavour. It is then finished in select Calvados casks from Normandy, France. The spend-in-cask strength is approximately 56.3 % ABV, non-chill filtered, with no added colour. In the glass, it pours a rich amber tone. On the nose, expect tropical fruit notes—lychee, mango, banana—underpinned by baked apple, pear, and honey from the Calvados cask. A gentle spice emerges with air. On the palate, flavours of dried apple, apricot, raisin combine richly with Calvados-influenced baked apple and pear. The bourbon casks provide a creamy malt base and spice. The overall profile is layered, bold and fruit-forward. The finish is long, warm, and exuberant—with fruit and spice lingering well. The combination of Indian ageing and French apple brandy casks leads to a unique complexity. This whisky suits drinkers seeking a bold, fruity dram with structured apple character and spice. The Calvados finish adds freshness and complexity. It works well neat or with a few drops of water to open fruit layers. Known for its limited availability and distinct style, it represents a compelling fusion of Indian and French influence.
