Powers Three Swallow is a single pot still whisky made in Ireland by Powers, one of Dublin's most storied names. This Irish whisky comes from a mix of malted and unmalted barley, the recipe that defines the pot still style. That blend gives the spirit a green, spicy lift and a thick, oily body. The house dates back to 1791, when James Power opened a distillery in Dublin. His firm grew fast and earned a strong name for quality. In 1886 it became the first Dublin distillery to bottle its own whisky. The old bottles wore swallows to mark the good stuff. Three swallows became the badge of the brand. This bottling carries that name with pride. Expect a lively pour from the glass. Green apple and crisp cereal lead the nose. A gentle nutty edge comes through from the wood. The palate is rich and mouth-coating. Sweet barley meets bright apple and zesty citrus. Then warm baking spice builds slowly underneath. Maturation happens mostly in American oak ex-bourbon casks. A smaller share rests in Oloroso sherry casks. That sherry influence adds a dried-fruit sweetness and a honeyed depth. Toasted oak and gentle vanilla round out the finish. The whisky stays bright and spicy from start to end. Each layer feels balanced against the next. Powers Three Swallow drinks best neat, served at room temperature. The spice and oak come through clearly with each sip. It is an approachable single pot still whisky with real character. For anyone curious about this classic Irish style, Powers makes a fine place to start. Few names carry as much weight in Irish whisky history.
