Facts

James Power opened his Dublin distillery in 1791, and his family changed Irish whisky forever. In 1886 they became the first to bottle their own spirit instead of selling it off in casks. A gold label went on every bottle, and that is how this whisky earned its name. The character comes from pot still distillation, the old Irish way of mixing malted and unmalted barley. That gives it real backbone. You get a warm rush of honey and spice, a little orange, then a long peppery finish. Pour it neat and let the barley do the talking. It is a proper piece of whisky history.

About the Powers Gold Label

Powers Gold Label is a blended Irish whisky from the Powers distillery in Ireland. Born in Dublin in 1791, the brand carries one of the oldest names in Irish whisky. The Powers family made history in 1886. They were the first Dublin distillery to bottle their own whisky, when everyone else still sold it in casks. A gold label went on each bottle. That label gave Powers Gold Label its name, and the tradition still holds today. This is a triple-distilled blend built around Irish pot still whisky. Pot still spirit uses both malted and unmalted barley, a style unique to Ireland. It brings a spicy, full-bodied kick that sets this whisky apart from lighter blends. The grain whisky in the mix rounds everything off and keeps it easy to drink. The flavour is generous and warming. Honey and vanilla lead the way, with soft caramel and a touch of orange behind them. Then comes the famous Powers spice, a peppery, gingery heat that lingers. A soft, oily texture coats the mouth and carries the flavour. The finish is long, dry and full of barley character. Matured in oak casks, this whisky drinks beautifully neat. The richness sets it apart from lighter, blander blends. It rewards a slow sip rather than a quick gulp. It is best enjoyed on its own, in a simple glass, with nothing to get in the way. Powers Gold Label is a true Dublin classic and a brilliant introduction to traditional Irish whisky. Few blends offer this much character at the price.
