Speyside
Pittyvaich 30 years Special Release is a single malt Scotch whisky from Speyside, in the north of Scotland. The Pittyvaich distillery stood in Dufftown, built in 1975 beside its older neighbour. It ran for only eighteen years before closing in 1993. That makes Pittyvaich the shortest-lived distillery Speyside ever knew. The site was later demolished, so no new spirit will ever flow again. What remains is a small reserve of ageing casks, growing rarer each year. This Diageo Special Release draws from those last stocks. Thirty years in American oak shaped a deep and rounded character. The flavour rewards patience. Ripe banana and soft caramel open the glass first. Bright tangerine cuts through with a lively citrus snap. Underneath sits warm vanilla and a hint of old wood. The long age adds weight without turning heavy or sharp. This is a whisky for slow evenings and curious palates. Pour Pittyvaich 30 years Special Release neat and give it room. The aromas build gradually as the spirit settles in the glass. Each sip uncovers another quiet layer of fruit and oak. Few distilleries vanish and still leave something this graceful behind. As a closed and demolished Speyside name, Pittyvaich offers a taste of history in liquid form. Bottlings like this single malt grow scarcer with every passing year. For collectors of Scotland's lost distilleries, it is a genuine find. The long rest in oak has softened every edge. What remains is gentle, fruity and quietly elegant. Pittyvaich 30 years Special Release is a rare taste of a vanished place. It makes a fitting gift for any whisky historian. Pour it neat and toast a distillery time forgot.
