Barley malted to 50 ppm gives a smoke that hits hard and lingers long. Lagg distillery opened its doors in June 2019, near a village with a hidden whisky past. Smugglers once ran illicit stills across this southern corner of Arran. The modern Lagg pays tribute to that heritage. It was built by Isle of Arran Distillers as a heavily peated sister to their Lochranza site. The new make here runs about two and a half times smokier than the spirit made up north.
