Jack Daniel's American single malt is a 100 percent malted barley whisky made in Lynchburg, Tennessee. The distillery is best known for Tennessee whisky, so a single malt is a real departure. Barley replaces the corn-heavy mash entirely here. The spirit still goes through the house charcoal mellowing that defines everything from the site. Oloroso sherry casks from Spain finish the job. It is bottled at 45% ABV. Before barrelling, the new spirit drips down through ten feet of charcoal in the mellowing vats. That step is called the Lincoln County Process, and it strips out harsher edges. Master distiller Chris Fletcher then moved the matured malt into 300 litre oloroso sherry casks. Roughly one hundred of those casks were blended for this release. Sherry was chosen to add richness rather than to mask the barley. Floral and fresh notes open it, with pear sitting just behind the sherry. Malted barley gives the palate a soft cereal sweetness. Dried fruit and mocha arrive from the oloroso casks. Sweetness builds slowly through the middle. Brown sugar and red berries follow into a warm, gentle finish. Nothing here shouts for attention. The malt stays light on its feet, and that fresh pear note lingers longest. Jack Daniel's American single malt was released in September 2023 as a travel retail exclusive. You find it in airport shops, in one litre bottles, not on supermarket shelves. It carries no age statement. For a company built on corn and rye, this is the clearest look yet at what its barley can do. Anyone who thinks they know Jack Daniel's should taste this one.
