Hibiki
Hibiki is Suntory's flagship blended whisky from Japan, launched in 1989 to mark the company's 90th anniversary. It is not a single distillery but a marriage of spirits drawn from three Suntory sites. Yamazaki and Hakushu supply the malt whisky, while Chita contributes the smooth grain whisky at its core. The blend leans on Japan's craft of harmony, which is what the name Hibiki means. The chief blender tastes through more than 100 samples from each distillery to choose the components for a single composition. Some malts even rest in rare Mizunara oak, a Japanese wood that adds a gentle, incense-like note. Hibiki earned wider fame after appearing in the 2003 film Lost in Translation. The cameo helped turn a quiet domestic blend into a sought-after name for whisky drinkers around the world.
