Facts

In 1963, Glenfiddich did something almost unheard of. They bottled a single malt and took it to the world, at a time when blends ruled every back bar. Malt Master Brian Kinsman later returned to the family archives and rebuilt that pioneering recipe. The result is a Speyside whisky that leads with orchard fruit: pear, fresh apple, and a drift of honey. Brown sugar and toasted malt follow. Graham cracker and dried fruit round out the finish. Drink it neat and let the story sit with it.

About the distillery

Glenfiddich

Glenfiddich is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Dufftown, Scotland. Founded in 1887, it is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family-owned and operated to this day. The distillery is situated in a picturesque valley next to the River Fiddich, with water flowing from the nearby Robbie Dhu spring providing a key ingredient in the whisky production process. Glenfiddich uses traditional copper pot stills to distill its whisky, which is aged in oak casks for a minimum of three years before bottling. In 1963, Glenfiddich introduced the world's first single malt whisky to be marketed outside of Scotland, helping to kickstart the global popularity of single malts.

About the Glenfiddich The Original

Glenfiddich The Original is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside region of Scotland. It was built on a recipe recovered from the Glenfiddich family archives. The distillery was founded by William Grant in 1887. It was among the first to bottle and promote single malt on a global stage. That decision changed what people thought whisky could be. Malt Master Brian Kinsman recreated the expression to reflect how Glenfiddich tasted in 1963. That was the year the distillery began its push to take single malt worldwide. Blended Scotch dominated back bars at the time. Single malt was unfamiliar to most drinkers outside Scotland. Kinsman worked from historical records and tasting notes held in the family archives. His goal was accuracy, not reinvention. Sherry cask maturation plays a central role, as it did in that era. The whisky is bottled at 40% ABV and carries the character of that original vision. On the nose, Glenfiddich The Original opens with fresh fruit: pear, apple, and a trace of floral sweetness. Honey and malty bread notes follow close behind. The palate is soft and fruity, with buttery graham cracker, brown sugar, and a hint of spice. Dried fruit and gentle oak emerge as the dram develops. The finish is malt-driven, with sherry-tinged sweetness that lingers cleanly. Glenfiddich operates one of the few remaining on-site cooperages in Scotland. Casks are maintained and inspected around the clock at the Dufftown distillery. That level of attention to wood shapes every expression in the range. This one is no exception. Pour Glenfiddich The Original neat to appreciate its full character. It is an approachable whisky, but one carrying real and documented history.
