Facts

Glenfiddich built its name on clean, fruity Speyside spirit. Fire & Cane turns that template sideways. The malt team took lightly peated new-make. Just enough smoke to leave a mark. They rested it in Latin American dark rum barrels. The result is a whisky that shifts as you drink it. Caramel and brown sugar arrive first. Then baking spice and a thread of ash push through. It finishes with dried fruit and a warm, lingering earthiness. Neat is the way to go. Give it a few minutes in the glass.

About the distillery

Distillery

Glenfiddich

Glenfiddich is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Dufftown, Scotland. Founded in 1887, it is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family-owned and operated to this day. The distillery is situated in a picturesque valley next to the River Fiddich, with water flowing from the nearby Robbie Dhu spring providing a key ingredient in the whisky production process. Glenfiddich uses traditional copper pot stills to distill its whisky, which is aged in oak casks for a minimum of three years before bottling. In 1963, Glenfiddich introduced the world's first single malt whisky to be marketed outside of Scotland, helping to kickstart the global popularity of single malts.

About the Glenfiddich Fire & Cane

Glenfiddich Fire & Cane is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Speyside region of Scotland. It is part of Glenfiddich's Experimental Series, a line dedicated to unusual cask and spirit combinations. This expression is the fourth in that series. The distillery's malt team blended classic unpeated spirit with lightly peated new-make at around 8 ppm phenols. The blended spirit then spent time in Latin American dark rum barrels, picking up sweetness to balance the smoke. Glenfiddich has stood in Dufftown since Christmas Day 1887, when William Grant first ran spirit from his hand-built stills. The distillery remains in family hands today, five generations on. It was among the first Scottish distilleries to actively market single malt abroad. That ambition helped shape the global appetite for Speyside whisky. This same independence gives the distillery confidence to experiment without losing its identity. On the nose, Glenfiddich Fire & Cane opens with brown sugar, banana, and caramel. Baking spice builds behind it, with cardamom and cinnamon lifting the sweetness. The peat is gentle but present. Ash and a faint earthiness thread through the fruit. On the palate, dried fruit and clove push forward. Coffee and a hint of funk add depth in the mid-palate. The finish brings warmth and lingering spice. Drink it neat. The rum cask and peat need space to find their balance, and adding water risks tipping one over the other. This is a Speyside single malt for curious drinkers. They enjoy the Glenfiddich house style but want a different angle on it. The smoke is approachable. The sweetness is generous. Together they make a whisky that is worth the time.
