Great American rivers once carried oak casks of bourbon down towards New Orleans. Those casks were filled once, emptied, and still held plenty of flavour. Glenfiddich built a whole bottling around that piece of history. This is the distillery's only whisky matured exclusively in American bourbon casks. The result is warm and generous rather than sharp or woody. Crunchy toffee sits beside marmalade on toast, with dry oak tannin holding the sweetness back. Glenfiddich

Glenfiddich is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Dufftown, Scotland. Founded in 1887, it is one of the few single malt distilleries to remain entirely family-owned and operated to this day. The distillery is situated in a picturesque valley next to the River Fiddich, with water flowing from the nearby Robbie Dhu spring providing a key ingredient in the whisky production process. Glenfiddich uses traditional copper pot stills to distill its whisky, which is aged in oak casks for a minimum of three years before bottling. In 1963, Glenfiddich introduced the world's first single malt whisky to be marketed outside of Scotland, helping to kickstart the global popularity of single malts.

Nineteen years is a long stretch for that kind of wood. The bottling sits at 40% ABV and never feels aggressive. Look for warm toffee, orange marmalade and a dry oak edge, all built up slowly over almost two decades. The name points back to the great American rivers of the trading age. Oak casks filled with bourbon once travelled down those waters towards New Orleans. Each cask was used a single time in America, so its flavour came out fast. Long maturation never exhausted that wood, which made it ideal for ageing Scotch malt. The distillery leaned on the idea and let its spirit sit for nineteen years. That history is the reason this bottling exists at all. Warm, crunchy toffee arrives first, backed by a sweet run of deep citrus. Marmalade on toast follows, with vanilla pod and a faint earthy note underneath. Dry, almost smoky oak tannin stops it all from turning syrupy. Sipping brings leather, Havana tobacco and a slow build of spice. Cardamom and nutmeg lend a gingery warmth to the velvety texture. Everything fades long and floral, leaving a clean grassy edge behind. No other whisky in the range is matured exclusively in American bourbon casks.
