Facts

Glenfarclas has been run by one family, the Grants, since 1865. They still fire their six copper stills directly with gas flame. That is an old method most distilleries have quietly dropped. The direct heat builds a rich, sherried character you can taste. This bottling marks 175 years since the distillery was licensed in 1836. Expect orange and sherry, soft raisins, ripe grape and dark cherry. A little oak and pepper give it real backbone. The Grants used the largest stills in Speyside to make it. Pour it neat and let the dried fruit unfold slowly.

Glenfarclas

Glenfarclas distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in the Speyside region of Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1836 and is one of the few independent family-owned distilleries in Scotland, with the Grant family owning and operating the distillery for six generations. The distillery is situated in the heart of Speyside, near the town of Ballindalloch, and draws its water from the nearby springs of the Ben Rinnes mountain. Glenfarclas produces a range of whiskies, including both unpeated and peated expressions, which are aged in a combination of oak casks, including ex-bourbon, sherry, and port casks.

About the Glenfarclas 175th Anniversary

Glenfarclas 175th Anniversary is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Glenfarclas distillery in Speyside, Scotland. It was bottled to mark 175 years since the distillery was first licensed in 1836. This is a classic sherried Speyside dram, rich and warming. The colour comes from the cask alone, with no artificial colouring added. Pour it neat and the fruit arrives quickly. You meet orange, sherry and ripe grape before the spirit has even settled in the glass. The Glenfarclas distillery sits at Ballindalloch, under the shadow of Ben Rinnes. The Grant family bought it in 1865, and they have run it ever since. That makes Glenfarclas one of Scotland's few truly independent malt producers. The Grants still heat their six copper stills directly with gas flame. These are the largest stills in Speyside, and direct firing is a method most rivals abandoned long ago. That old method shapes the whisky in the glass. Direct heat caramelises sugars in the still and pushes the spirit toward a deeper, richer style. Long maturation in sherry casks then builds the dried fruit core. You taste raisins, dark cherry and a thread of chocolate. Honey and caramel round the middle, while soft oak and a touch of pepper hold the edges. It is full, generous and unmistakably sherried. Glenfarclas 175th Anniversary drinks best neat, in a glass you can cup in your hand. Give it a minute and the fruit keeps opening, layer after layer. Strawberry and orange brighten the top notes. Underneath sit raisins, sultanas and warm baking spice. The finish is long, with grape sweetness fading into dry oak. For lovers of traditional Speyside single malt Scotch whisky, this is a generous and characterful pour. It comes from a true family distillery.
