Facts

William Williams built Glendullan on the banks of the River Fiddich in 1897. Dufftown was still earning its nickname as the malt whisky capital of the world. Most of what leaves the stills goes quietly into blends, yet the house style stays unmistakable. Long fermentation and patient distillation pull out light, orchard-fruit sweetness before the spirit ever sees oak. Honey and vanilla layer over that fruity core during maturation. Peppery spice and a faint citrus lift arrive on the finish. Pour it neat and let the glass do the talking.

About the distillery

Distillery

Glendullan

William Williams, an Aberdeen blender and broker, built Glendullan in 1897 as the seventh distillery to rise in Dufftown, Speyside, Scotland. Success came fast. By 1902 the whisky was being supplied to King Edward VII by royal request, a rare honour for such a young distillery. A second distillery was built alongside the original in 1972, and the two ran together until the older site closed in 1985. Today Glendullan draws its water from the Conval Hill springs. Three wash stills and three spirit stills produce whisky mainly destined for Diageo's blends. Some of the spirit does reach drinkers unblended. Diageo bottles it as The Singleton of Glendullan, a fruity and approachable single malt made specifically for the American market.

About the Glendullan 12 years

Glendullan 12 years is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky from the Glendullan distillery in Scotland. The bottle carries a twelve-year age statement and a 47% ABV strength. Twelve years in oak shape a spirit built through long fermentation and slow distillation at the Dufftown plant. William Williams, an Aberdeen blender, founded Glendullan in 1897 beside the River Fiddich. His firm later joined the Distillers Company, and the site became one of seven stillhouses in Dufftown. A second distillery rose next door in 1972, running in tandem until the original plant closed in 1985. Most Glendullan spirit still goes into Diageo blends, yet official bottlings reveal a lightly fruity house character. The profile sits on the fruity side of grassy. Patient production builds that style rather than heavy cask dressing. Glendullan 12 years is where that character meets the glass without blenders in the middle. Fresh fruit and honey arrive first, with sweet citrus and soft vanilla close behind. Fruity sweetness carries through the mid-palate, where peppery spice adds warmth. A faint medicinal note may flicker underneath, balanced by alcohol warmth from the higher bottling strength. Colouring has been added to this expression, a common choice for consistent shelf presentation. That does not dull the orchard-fruit core the distillery is prized for among blenders. Glendullan 12 years rewards slow sipping neat, where honey, vanilla, and spice linger on a sweet finish. For newcomers to Speyside, this malt is an honest introduction to the region's fruit-forward side. For seasoned drinkers, it is a chance to taste a distillery that usually stays hidden inside famous labels. Pour a measure neat and give it time to open.
