GlenDronach Traditionally Peated is a single malt whisky produced at GlenDronach Distillery in the Highlands of Scotland. It was launched in late 2019 as the distillery’s first peated release, offering a throwback to the malt-making traditions of its founding era around 1826. At that time, peat was commonly used in the kiln to dry barley. This whisky has no age statement. It is made using peated malt (about 25 ppm). The spirit is matured in a combination of Oloroso sherry casks, Pedro Ximénez sherry casks, and Port pipes. It is bottled at 48 % ABV, non chill filtered, and retains its natural colour. The colour is deep golden. On the nose, expect rich toffee, treacle, honey, candied orange peel, subtle peat smoke, and dusty spice. Some notes of leather, tobacco and ginger emerge. The palate brings soft peat smoke balanced by dark dried fruits like raisins and figs, nutty chocolate, caramel, blackberry, and warming wood spices including clove, cinnamon, white pepper. The finish is long and warming, with sweet fruit, smoke, gentle oak and an earthy note that fades into savoury dryness. The character of Traditionally Peated reflects GlenDronach’s classic sherry-forward style but layered with smoke. It highlights the distillery’s rich, oily spirit and sherry cask influence in a peated format rarely seen from this Highland distillery. GlenDronach Traditionally Peated is suitable for drinkers who enjoy smoky whisky, but prefer a softer, fruit-driven style rather than the intense peat of Islay. A small splash of water can soften the surface smoke and highlight fruit and honey notes. Attractive to fans of peat smoke whiskies with a sherried backbone.
