William Delmé-Evans designed Glenallachie in 1967, tucked below Ben Rinnes on the eastern edge of Speyside. For decades official bottlings were rare and few drinkers knew the name. Billy Walker changed that. He took over as master distiller and began hand-picking casks for single malt releases. Batch 3 of the 10 year old cask strength is one of them. Only 3,500 bottles came out, drawn from first fill sherry, oloroso and PX casks. The strength is untouched, so it lands hard: cinnamon, mango, then dark plum and honey. Ten years is young for this much depth.

Glenallachie distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in the Speyside region of Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1967 by Mackinlay McPherson Ltd, and it is currently owned by the Glenallachie Consortium, led by industry veteran Billy Walker. The distillery is situated in the heart of Speyside, near the town of Aberlour, and draws its water from the nearby springs of Ben Rinnes. Glenallachie produces a range of whiskies, including both unpeated and peated expressions, which are aged in a combination of oak casks, including ex-bourbon, sherry, and virgin oak casks.

Glenallachie 10 years Cask Strength Batch 3 is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky. The spirit rests ten years in cask, then reaches the bottle at 58.2%. Nobody reduces the strength before bottling. There is no colouring and no chill filtration either. Batch 3 ran to 3,500 bottles worldwide. Master distiller Billy Walker picked the casks himself. That is why the batch number sits right there on the label. The distillery stands below Ben Rinnes, on the eastern edge of Speyside. Architect William Delmé-Evans drew the plans and the stills started running in 1967. Two of them worked the wash and spirit at first. Demand climbed, so a second pair went in during 1989. Official bottlings stayed scarce for most of that history. Billy Walker now runs the place as master distiller, and the single malt finally gets the attention. Cinnamon and allspice come first, sharp and dry in the glass. Behind them sit mango, pineapple and a floral lift, with green apple cutting through. Milk chocolate rounds the edges. The fruit turns darker once you taste it. Plum, cherry and peach arrive together, wrapped in honey and dried fruit. Nutmeg and nougat keep the sweetness in check. Nectarine and more cinnamon linger for a long time afterwards. Each release in this series comes from a different parcel of casks. Batch 3 drew on first fill sherry casks, oloroso and PX, which explains the depth of the dried fruit. Glenallachie 10 years Cask Strength Batch 3 therefore tastes different from Batch 2 or Batch 4. Full strength keeps every one of those cask notes intact. Pour it neat and the ten years do the talking.
