In 2018 Glenallachie released its first cask strength 10 year old. Batch 1 pulled from four oak types at once: American oak, Pedro Ximenez, oloroso and virgin oak. Most distilleries pick one or two. The spirit came out at 57.1%, straight from the cask. Sweetness and grip land in the same mouthful. Honey sits under a layer of spice and dark sugar. Glenallachie distillery is a single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in the Speyside region of Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1967 by Mackinlay McPherson Ltd, and it is currently owned by the Glenallachie Consortium, led by industry veteran Billy Walker. The distillery is situated in the heart of Speyside, near the town of Aberlour, and draws its water from the nearby springs of Ben Rinnes. Glenallachie produces a range of whiskies, including both unpeated and peated expressions, which are aged in a combination of oak casks, including ex-bourbon, sherry, and virgin oak casks.

Glenallachie 10 years Cask Strength Batch 1 is a single malt whisky from Speyside, Scotland. It was the distillery's first cask strength bottling to carry a 10 year old age statement. The whisky goes into the bottle straight from the cask at 57.1% ABV. Batch 1 reached shelves in 2018. That first release set the pattern for the batches that followed. Speyside single malts rarely arrive this loud. Four different oak types went into this bottling. American oak casks form the base, with Pedro Ximenez, oloroso and virgin oak filling out the rest. Each wood pulls the spirit in a different direction. Sherry casks bring dried fruit and depth, while virgin oak adds raw spice and grip. Marrying four wood styles at full strength takes a steady hand. The result stays balanced rather than woody. Clove and brown sugar open the nose, with leather and toffee underneath. Sharper notes take over once it hits the tongue. Ginger and orange zest lead, backed by honey and cocoa. Fresh fruit runs through the middle, and black pepper builds as it dries. Oak and vanilla carry the finish, with fudge and cream softening the edges. At 57.1% the flavours arrive fast, but they hold their shape. Strength is what separates this release from the rest.
