Facts

Glen Scotia opened its doors in 1832, back when Campbeltown was the whisky capital of the world. Dozens of distilleries once crowded these streets. Today only a handful survive, and this one still runs on its original 1830s stillhouse and dunnage warehouse. That continuity shows up in the glass. Expect sweet caramel and vanilla, a burst of fresh fruit, then a coastal tang that pulls everything tight. It is the taste of a town that refused to let its craft disappear. Pour it neat and let the salted caramel sweetness unfold slowly. There is real history here, and you can sip it.

Glen Scotia

Glen Scotia is a whisky distillery located in Campbeltown, Scotland. It was founded in 1832 and has been producing whisky for almost two centuries. The distillery produces single malt Scotch whisky using traditional methods and has a production capacity of 750,000 litres per year. The distillery is known for its distinctive maritime style, which is attributed to its location on the west coast of Scotland, near the Atlantic Ocean. This unique character is reflected in the flavour of its whiskies, which often have notes of sea salt, brine, and seaweed. Glen Scotia is one of only three distilleries remaining in Campbeltown, which was once a thriving whisky-producing region. At its peak in the 19th century, the town was home to more than 30 distilleries, but economic downturns and changing tastes led to the closure of most of them. Today, Glen Scotia is a rare example of a traditional Campbeltown distillery.

About the Glen Scotia Campbeltown

Glen Scotia Campbeltown is a single malt whisky made in Campbeltown, on Scotland's Kintyre Peninsula. The Glen Scotia distillery has stood here since 1832. Back then Campbeltown was the busiest whisky region on earth. A distillery sat on nearly every corner. Most of those neighbours are long gone. Glen Scotia is one of the few that survived. The distillery still uses its original 1830s fermenters and stillhouse. Its dunnage warehouse dates from the same era. Walking in feels like stepping back two centuries. That old setup gives this whisky its honest, hand-made character. Bottled at 46% ABV, this is a single malt Scotch whisky with real personality. The nose leans sweet, with caramel and soft vanilla up front. Then the fruit arrives in force. You get fresh fruit, bright tangerine and a juicy hit of pineapple. A gentle woody note runs underneath. The famous Campbeltown coastal salt sits behind it all. The payoff is the finish. Sweet vanilla folds into a moreish salted caramel richness. It is warm, slightly briny and easy to come back to. This is whisky with a real sense of place. Sea air and slow ageing both leave their mark here. The salt and sweetness play off each other nicely. Glen Scotia Campbeltown is best enjoyed neat. Pour a measure and let the aromas open for a minute. A drop of water suits it too. Whether you know the name already or are new to Campbeltown, this single malt is a rewarding introduction. It is a proud survivor from a once-mighty whisky town.
