Facts

More than thirty distilleries once lined a single Scottish peninsula on the west coast. Only three survive today, and Glen Scotia holds its ground among them. Warehouse doors still face open water, and that coastal character finds its way into the spirit. This bottling rests in bourbon wood for years, then spends a final twelve months in first-fill Oloroso casks. Honey and fresh fruit lead on the palate, with peppery spice building slowly underneath. Vanilla sweetness rounds the edges without softening the malt's directness. Pour it neat and let each layer reveal itself.

Glen Scotia

Glen Scotia is a whisky distillery located in Campbeltown, Scotland. It was founded in 1832 and has been producing whisky for almost two centuries. The distillery produces single malt Scotch whisky using traditional methods and has a production capacity of 750,000 litres per year. The distillery is known for its distinctive maritime style, which is attributed to its location on the west coast of Scotland, near the Atlantic Ocean. This unique character is reflected in the flavour of its whiskies, which often have notes of sea salt, brine, and seaweed. Glen Scotia is one of only three distilleries remaining in Campbeltown, which was once a thriving whisky-producing region. At its peak in the 19th century, the town was home to more than 30 distilleries, but economic downturns and changing tastes led to the closure of most of them. Today, Glen Scotia is a rare example of a traditional Campbeltown distillery.

About the Glen Scotia 18 years

Glen Scotia 18 years is a single malt Scotch whisky from Campbeltown, Scotland. The Glen Scotia distillery is one of only three survivors on a peninsula that once boasted over thirty distilleries. This bottle carries an eighteen-year age statement. It finishes for twelve months in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks after years in refill bourbon and American oak hogsheads. Campbeltown's west coast position gave distillers early choice of fine sherry casks from sea trade routes. Records of sherry cask use in the region stretch back to the eighteen hundreds. Glen Scotia honours that long maturation tradition in its oldest refined line. The stillroom, dunnage warehouse and fermenters largely date from the nineteenth century. Master Blender selection picks the finest casks before they enter the Oloroso finish. Much of the original distillery design at Glen Scotia remains unchanged today. On the nose, sweet honey mingles with perfumed floral notes and a crisp coastal saltiness. The palate opens with fresh fruit, thick toffee sweetness and gentle vanilla from long oak contact. Apricot and pineapple drift through the fresher fruit alongside salted caramel depth. Peppery spice warms through the mid-palate alongside hints of lime and a subtle peanut nuttiness. A meaty cereal richness adds weight behind the sweeter top notes. A long dry finish leaves gentle spicy warmth behind. The whisky is unpeated, floral and aromatic throughout. Sea spray and warming spice stay present without overpowering the sherried sweetness. Bottled at forty-six per cent ABV without chill filtration or added colour. Glen Scotia 18 years keeps its full character intact. It suits drinkers who want sherried richness with Campbeltown's direct coastal malt at its core. Pour this single malt neat to explore its layered sweetness and spice at your own pace.
