Finlaggan
On the island of Islay, Loch Finlaggan once held the seat of the Lords of the Isles. These Gaelic chiefs of Clan Donald ruled much of western Scotland from the 13th to 15th centuries. Glasgow's Vintage Malt Whisky Company borrowed that name in 1992 for a new peated single malt, and it became the launch brand for the company. Finlaggan is bottled without a stated distillery of origin. The company treats its source as a trade secret, sourcing whisky from Islay and shaping it into three core expressions. An Old Reserve sits at 40% abv, Eilean Mor at 46%, and a Cask Strength bottling reaches 58%. None carries an age statement, a deliberate choice so drinkers judge the spirit on taste alone. That secrecy is the brand's real signature. Enthusiasts have spent decades guessing which Islay distillery supplies the malt behind Finlaggan. The mystery has not hurt sales, and Finlaggan has sold more than a million bottles across over 30 countries worldwide.
