Facts

Back in 1897, Congress passed the Bottled-in-Bond Act to fight fake and watered spirits. This bourbon still earns that old badge today. It comes from a single distilling season at one distillery. Every drop is aged at least four years under government watch and bottled at a firm 100 proof. The result is a confident pour with real backbone. You meet warm caramel and brown sugar first. Then char, oak and a curl of cinnamon arrive. A little cherry and leather follow close behind. Sip it neat and let the heat settle into something rich and rounded.

Evan Williams

In 1783, a Welsh immigrant opened what is remembered as Kentucky's first commercial distillery, on the banks of the Ohio River in Louisville. His name was Evan Williams, and he was a busy figure in the young town. He served as an early city trustee and as Louisville's wharf master. The bourbon that carries his name today is a different story. Heaven Hill launched the brand in 1957 and now distills it in Bardstown, Kentucky, just blocks from where Williams once worked. It has grown into one of the best selling Kentucky straight bourbons in the world. In 2013, Heaven Hill brought whisky making back to Louisville's Whisky Row. The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience opened on West Main Street with a working pot still and a five story bottle on its facade. It became the first stop on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail inside the city itself.

About the Evan Williams 4 years ed in Bond

Evan Williams 4 years ed in Bond is a Kentucky straight bourbon whisky made in the United States. The Evan Williams brand carries the name of a Welsh settler who reached the United States in 1780. He went on to found one of Kentucky's earliest commercial distilleries. That long story still sits behind every bottle. This is a proper Bottled-in-Bond bourbon. The rules go back to an act of Congress in 1897. To qualify, the whisky must come from one distilling season at a single distillery. It must age at least four years under government supervision. It must reach the glass at exactly 100 proof. Few bourbon styles ask for so much honesty on the label. The extra strength gives this bourbon whisky a bold, full character. Caramel and brown sugar lead on the nose. Burnt sugar and a touch of butterscotch deepen the sweetness. The charred new oak barrels add char, dry oak and a warm cinnamon spice. A thread of cherry and leather runs underneath it all. Evan Williams is one of the best selling bourbon names from Kentucky. Yet it stays easy to find and easy to love. The higher proof never feels harsh. It simply carries the flavour with more weight and a longer finish. This bourbon rewards a slow, unhurried sip. Evan Williams 4 years ed in Bond drinks best neat, in a simple glass. The grain sweetness, the oak and the gentle spice all sit in fine balance. It suits anyone who wants honest, traditional bourbon whisky with a bit of backbone. Pour a measure and take your time with it.
