Facts

The Mackenzie family have owned Dalmore since 1867. And they carry a 12-pointed Royal Stag on the bottle to this day. That emblem traces back to a legend: a Mackenzie ancestor saved King Alexander III from a charging stag. This expression honours that king. It is rich and layered, with dark chocolate, dried fruit, and orange zest up front. Cinnamon and brown sugar follow, then leather and a long, warming finish. Pour it neat and give it a moment to breathe.

About the distillery

Distillery

Dalmore

Highlands of Scotland. It was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, who saw the potential of the area's natural resources for creating high-quality whisky. The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the popular 12-year-old and 18-year-old expressions, as well as a number of limited edition releases. Dalmore is known for its rich, full-bodied whiskies with notes of citrus, chocolate, and spices. Dalmore also has a long-standing association with the Mackenzie clan, who once owned the distillery. The iconic stag's head emblem that appears on the bottles of Dalmore whisky is said to have been inspired by a legend in which the clan chief saved King Alexander III of Scotland from a charging stag, and was granted the right to use the animal's antlers as his crest as a result.

About the Dalmore King Alexander III

Dalmore King Alexander III is a Highland single malt Scotch whisky. It is crafted at the Dalmore distillery on the shores of the Cromarty Firth in Scotland. The distillery was founded in 1839 and passed to the Mackenzie family in 1867. They stamped it with the 12-pointed Royal Stag emblem. The emblem is tied to a legend: a Mackenzie ancestor saved King Alexander III from a charging stag. The Dalmore King Alexander III is matured by master distiller Richard Paterson. He uses a combination of American white oak bourbon casks and aged sherry casks sourced from Gonzalez Byass. This dual maturation builds the depth and warmth the expression is known for. The result is a single malt that layers dried fruit and dark chocolate against brown sugar and cinnamon. Citrus follows, with orange zest and a hint of fresh fruit brightening the middle palate. The finish is long and gently spiced. Leather and oaky warmth hold on, with pear and a touch of malty sweetness rounding things out. There is no sharp edge here. Dalmore builds its character slowly, and this bottling reflects that patience. Dalmore King Alexander III is bottled at 40% ABV without an age statement. This allows Richard Paterson to blend across different cask ages for consistency. The combination of bourbon and sherry casks gives it a depth that builds as you drink. There is always more to find in the glass with time. Serve it neat. It opens up and rewards the time you give it.
