Facts

Dalmore 1979 comes from a Highland house known for rich, sherry-led single malt. This release began life in 1979 and later took a sherry finish. That choice gives the whisky a darker, old-style personality. You get dried fruit, orange peel, and polished oak before spice arrives. The texture feels weighty, yet the profile stays composed. It drinks like a bottle made for slow attention. There is depth, but also clarity in each sip. Dalmore fans often chase this vintage for that balance. It feels archival, but still alive in the glass.

About the distillery

Distillery

Dalmore

Highlands of Scotland. It was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson, who saw the potential of the area's natural resources for creating high-quality whisky. The distillery produces a range of single malt whiskies, including the popular 12-year-old and 18-year-old expressions, as well as a number of limited edition releases. Dalmore is known for its rich, full-bodied whiskies with notes of citrus, chocolate, and spices. Dalmore also has a long-standing association with the Mackenzie clan, who once owned the distillery. The iconic stag's head emblem that appears on the bottles of Dalmore whisky is said to have been inspired by a legend in which the clan chief saved King Alexander III of Scotland from a charging stag, and was granted the right to use the animal's antlers as his crest as a result.

About the Dalmore 1979

Dalmore 1979 is a Highland single malt whisky from Scotland, produced at Dalmore Distillery on the Cromarty Firth. Dalmore Distillery has long pursued a fuller style, shaped by weighty spirit and assertive wood influence. That profile makes this vintage feel classical, structured, and unmistakably Dalmore in character. The whisky sits in the Dalmore Vintages series, built around specific distillation years. For searchers of old Highland whisky, this bottle offers both provenance and personality. Dalmore 1979 was distilled on 1 January 1979 and later finished in sherry casks. Master of Malt lists this Sherry Finesse release at 47% ABV in 70cl format. The same listing states that only 487 bottles were released. That limited outturn is the key reason collectors track Dalmore 1979 so closely. It is not just old stock; it is a tightly defined edition. In the glass, dried fruit arrives first, with orange peel and dark sherry richness. Oak and spice build through the middle, giving the palate grip and direction. Notes of vanilla and dark chocolate soften the edges without flattening the spirit. A peppery close and fruit cake note keep the finish vivid and long. This balance makes the whisky feel mature but still precise. Hints of orange marmalade and toffee appear with time in the glass. Dalmore Distillery identity stays clear here, even with heavy sherry influence. Dalmore 1979 suits drinkers who want layered single malt Scotch whisky with historic context. It drinks best neat, where texture, oak, and dried fruit remain focused. Its profile rewards slow sipping and careful attention to each aromatic shift. For serious Highland enthusiasts, this bottle is a rare benchmark from Dalmore Distillery.
