Facts

Clynelish sits in Brora, on the far northeast coast of the Highlands. The modern distillery was built in 1967, beside the old one that became Brora. Most of its spirit disappears into Johnnie Walker, so bottlings under its own name are a treat. This one takes that waxy, coastal malt and gives it a second rest in sherry casks. The result leans richer and sweeter. You get raisins, dried fruit and a pinch of nutmeg, with a salty edge underneath. It stays bright and a little oily. Pour it neat and let the layers unfold slowly.

Clynelish

Clynelish Distillery, nestled in the scenic Highlands of Scotland, is known for producing single malt Scotch whiskies. With a history dating back to its establishment in 1819. Clynelish whiskies are known for their balanced and complex profiles, often featuring notes of honey, citrus, and a subtle coastal brininess. The maturation process takes place in oak casks, allowing the whisky to develop its depth and character over time. An interesting fact about Clynelish is that its whisky is highly sought after by blenders due to its waxy and robust nature, making it an integral component in some of the most revered blended Scotch whiskies in the world.

About the Clynelish Distillers Edition

Clynelish Distillers Edition is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Clynelish distillery in the Highland region of Scotland. It takes the distillery's famously waxy, coastal spirit and gives it a second maturation in sherry casks. That finish deepens the whisky without burying its character. You meet sweet raisins and sultanas first, then a wave of dried fruit. The sherry brings warmth and a soft, fruity body. It is a richer take on a malt people rarely see bottled alone. The distillery story is unusual. Clynelish stands in Brora, on the far northeast coast of the Highlands. The current site was built in 1967, right beside the original Victorian distillery. That older building later reopened as Brora and is now hugely collectible. Around 95 percent of Clynelish spirit goes into blends. Most of it ends up in Johnnie Walker, especially the Gold Label Reserve. That makes any single malt release here feel special. The spirit itself is known for a curious waxy texture. It comes from the way the distillery runs its stills and worm tubs. This Distillers Edition keeps that oily mouthfeel intact. The sherry cask then layers sweetness and spice over the top. Expect nutmeg, gentle oak and a thread of dried fruit. There is salt in the background too, a nod to the nearby sea. It all stays balanced rather than heavy. On the palate the whisky moves from sweet to savoury. Honeyed sherry gives way to oak and a faint waxy grip. A little nutmeg and warm spice carry the middle. The finish is long, with raisins, salt and a clean coastal lift. It rewards slow sipping. Pour Clynelish Distillers Edition neat and give it room. The waxy backbone and sherry richness make this a quietly distinctive Highland single malt.
