Facts

The quarter cask is a small barrel, about 125 litres. Two centuries ago, casks this size were common on Arran. They were easy to haul around the island. Arran revives that old habit here. The spirit rests in first-fill bourbon barrels, then moves to these little American oak casks. Less liquid means more contact with wood. The result is fast, intense and sweet. You get pineapple and green apple, a creamy vanilla bean note, then a tangle of chilli heat. Bottled at full strength with no chill filtering and no colouring, it lands loud and bright.

About the distillery

Distillery

Arran

The Arran distillery is located on the Isle of Arran, off the west coast of Scotland. It was founded in 1995 and is one of the youngest distilleries in Scotland. Despite its relative youth, Arran has gained a reputation for producing high-quality single malt whiskies that are fruity, floral, and lightly peated. The distillery sources its water from Loch na Davie and uses traditional production methods, including floor malting. Arran produces a range of whiskies, including aged expressions and limited edition bottlings.

About the Arran Quarter Cask

Arran Quarter Cask is a single malt whisky from the Arran distillery in the Island region of Scotland. The Isle of Arran sits in the Firth of Clyde. And this cask-strength bottling shows the bright, lively side of the distillery. A quarter cask is a small barrel, far smaller than a standard one. The smaller the cask, the more wood touches the spirit. That is the whole idea behind Arran Quarter Cask. The maturation runs faster, and the oak speaks louder. The island setting shapes everything about the spirit. The spirit fills first-fill ex-bourbon barrels before its time in the little casks. The extra wood contact pushes the sweetness and the oaky spice forward. Nothing is rushed beyond what the wood allows. The result is bold yet balanced. The cask strength keeps the flavours vivid and full. On the nose there is fresh bread, soft vanilla and a sweet, malty warmth. The palate turns rich, with creamy vanilla bean and a building oaky grip. A gentle prickle of spice tingles on the tongue. The high strength carries every flavour without thinning out. This is whisky with the volume turned up. Arran Quarter Cask is bottled at natural colour and without chill filtration. That keeps the texture full and the flavour honest. This is a confident single malt for drinkers who like their whisky loud and bright. Enjoy it neat, then add a drop of water if you want to soften the heat. Either way, the oak and sweetness stay front and centre.
