Facts

Harold Currie founded Arran distillery in 1995 on Scotland's Isle of Arran. He had been a director of Chivas Regal — a very different world from this small Island operation. This expression takes Arran's malty, orchard-fruit spirit and finishes it in Amarone wine casks from northern Italy. Amarone is one of the most concentrated reds in the Italian wine world, and those casks leave a mark. Dark cherries, dark chocolate, and warming spice push through alongside the original malt. At 50% ABV, it has real presence without being hard work.

Arran

The Arran distillery is located on the Isle of Arran, off the west coast of Scotland. It was founded in 1995 and is one of the youngest distilleries in Scotland. Despite its relative youth, Arran has gained a reputation for producing high-quality single malt whiskies that are fruity, floral, and lightly peated. The distillery sources its water from Loch na Davie and uses traditional production methods, including floor malting. Arran produces a range of whiskies, including aged expressions and limited edition bottlings.

About the Arran Amarone Cask Finish

Arran Amarone Cask Finish is a single malt Scotch whisky from the Isle of Arran, Scotland. Arran distillery was founded in 1995 by Harold Currie, a former director of Chivas Regal. It is one of the younger Island distilleries. Three decades of production have built a strong reputation for clean, fruit-led malts. Water for production is drawn from Loch na Davie, a loch high above Lochranza village. That consistent source has shaped the spirit's character since the distillery opened. The Amarone Cask Finish takes that clean Island character and steers it somewhere richer. Amarone della Valpolicella is one of Italy's most concentrated red wines. It is made from partially dried grapes, a process that gives the wine an intense, syrupy depth. Casks that held this wine pass some of that intensity to the spirit during finishing. The result is a whisky that carries dark fruit and spice alongside the lighter malt underneath. On the palate, you find dried fruit and dark cherry upfront, deepening into dark chocolate and a hint of espresso. Black pepper and cinnamon provide warmth, while caramel and grape keep things rounded. Arran's clean spirit base allows each of those layers to register clearly. At 50% ABV, the spirit is full without being aggressive — it drinks well neat. Arran Amarone Cask Finish sits in a growing category of wine-cask finished Scotch. The Amarone source, however, sets it apart from the more typical sherry or port finish. Few Island distilleries reach for this style of Italian wine for their finishing casks. For whisky lovers who enjoy rich, fruit-forward single malts, this is a genuinely different expression. It is also a reliable gift choice for anyone curious about what wine cask finishing can achieve.
